   There are about 200 species of Kalanchoe that grow in tropical and subtropical regions though out the world.  Kalanchoes have many flower colors including white, yellow, and orange to brown, pink, red and purple, and foliage types differ from hairy leaves to smooth shiny leaves.  Most species grow well in sun or shade and propagate easily from stem cuttings, but don’t tolerate cold temperatures.

   This sun loving succulent member of the Crassula family is native to Madagascar.  Its' thick, light green, scalloped margined leaves are covered with fine fuzzy whitish hairs.  This small branching shrub grows well in containers and in the landscape.

   This miniature Madagascar native Kalanchoe has a spreading and trailing habit, and does well with very little water, as long as it's not in too much sun.  K. pumila has 1/2" long powdery purplish-green leaves with small clusters of beautiful bright pink flowers.

   Whitish to pinkish gray foliage and small, spring blooming, greenish yellow flowers are the trademarks of this Madagascar native.  This little plant is sensitive, however, so the mottled leaves have a tendency to fall off easily when bumped.

   This is a dense, easily propagated, fast growing plant. It turns quite red in the sun and in winter months, and the stems and leaves are lightly covered in a white powdery bloom.  K. thyrsifolia is native to Transvaal, Cape Province, South Africa
